Do the Right Thing

In Do the Right Thing a point is made regarding what the "right" thing to do is. In this script, race is the biggest issue and causes tension among the community. The words and actions of the main characters all lead to a point of how racism, violence, and tension will never solve an issue. Almost everytime two different races interact in the script, there in conflict. Examples of this are, Buggin' out and Sal arguing over the pictures on the wall, Cee, Punchy, and Charlie with the fire hydrant water going into his car, Buggin' Out and Clifton causing a scene over the scuffed shoes, Da Mayor and the Korean Clerk disrespecting each other over the type of beer, ML, Coconut Sid and Sweet Dick Willie ranting about the Korean store clerk and Mookie, Pino, Stevie, Officer Long and The Korean clerk all saying racists things about another race other than their own. These examples show how tense the relations between the races were.

The point is made towards the end of the script when Sal takes his Mikey Mantle bat from the counter and completely destroys Radio Raheem's boombox. The consequences following this action are the point of the script. A whole brawl breaks out among the men, leading to the arrest of Buggin' Out and the Death of Radio Raheem. From this point, complete chaos breaks out. Sal's Pizzeria is burnt to the ground, the mob of men, children, and women are sprayed by the powerful force of the firehose. The actions throughout this script leave everyone in a bad place. The racism, violence, and tension did no group of people good. The "right" thing to do is shown in the script by the outcome of this community. At the end of the day, nothing good came to anyone due to their actions.

Reaction to Do the Right Thing

While reading the  Do the Right Thing script, I pictured things in my head in a certain way. When I read, I imagined characters saying thing...
